Stewart Falls

We've started our family hiking season! Our first official hike was to Stewart Falls right outside of Sundance in Provo Canyon. It was a four mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall. If you look closely at the photo of the three kids at the beginning o the trail you can spot the waterfall on the top right corner.

The path was mostly leveled and shaded which made the hike a lot more enjoyable for the whole family. As we approached the falls we could actually see two waterfalls next to each other but only one of them was accessible on this hike.

There was a ton of stinging nettle all along the path so the kids were a little freaked out about rubbing against anything as we hiked. They were fine and forgot all about it as soon as we reached the falls.

The mist from the waterfall cooled us all down so we snapped a few pictures close to it and went downstream to sit down and play in the water before heading back to the car.

Carson had fallen on the road a couple of days earlier and skinned his knee really bad. He wore some gauze and an elastic wrap on his knee to protect it on the hike. I thought the ointment would have kept it moisturized. When we got home we discovered that the gauze had stuck to his knee. He was not a happy camper!

After a quick search on the Internet we found out that salt water helps loosen up the gauze from the skin so Todd soaked it with a solution of salt and water and let it sit for several minutes. Incredibly enough it worked! I wished I had known that as a kid. I still remember having to pull on my tights which had stuck to my knee cap because I didn't take them off immediately after skinning my knee. I am so grateful for the Internet!
