Our 4th of July was a blast! I decided to attend the Arlington 4th of July Parade with the kids and a friend while Todd was busy helping someone cut down a huge tree limb that had fallen on their driveway and fence. I think he preferred doing that than sitting in the hot sun watching people parade in front of him.
The Parade was fun for the little ones. Emilia liked the 6 Flags Over Texas float the best because of the Looney Tune characters singing and dancing. My favorite was the Breast Cancer Awareness Group. The ladies made caps out of neon pink plastic cups and wore them on their heads. They were all so happy walking by, smiling and waving to everyone.
I was surprised to see an Atheist float in the parade with a sign that read "Happy without Christ". It broke my heart to see so many people be part of that float, especially young children whose parents don't believe in God. Although I respect their freedom, not everyone does. I heard some boos shouted at them from people sitting around me.
In the afternoon we hosted a BBQ at our house and my next door neighbor offered her pool. We had about 15 adults and 10 children. Carson even jumped from the diving board into the water a few times. It wasn't his favorite thing to do but he didn't cry either. I was so proud of my little man.
We bought a slip-n-slide for the kids but it didn't compare to the one we ended playing with. Some friends of ours invited us to go down a slip-n-slide made out of a huge billboard laid on a hill on their property. It was a blast! The only problem was the grass at the end of the slide. It really got EVERYWHERE!
After playing at our friend's house until dusk we went home for dessert and played with fireworks. The kids loved the sparklers and the poppers. It was really a crazy day but filled with fun. A great way to celebrate Independence day with friends and family.
