Lake Tahoe and Angora Lakes

On our way home we had to stop to let some wild mustangs cross the road.  The kids got to visit Vinkinson Castle located in Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe. It was owned by a wealthy family and used as a summer home. Mrs. Knight purchased the property in 1928 and commissioned her nephew, a Swedish architect to design the home to resemble he homes in Scandinavia. There are over 100 dragons embedded in the design and decor of the home. The kids enjoyed looking for them in each room. We only found around 30 of them - but we didn't have access to every room either.

While in Tahoe we hiked to Angora lakes - two small fresh water lakes near lake Tahoe. Adjacent to the second lake is a small resort where we rented stand up paddle boards for the kids to try. The water is very calm and the lake is rather small so that gave the kids the confidence to try it themselves.  It was a fun experience for all. The lake is surrounded by mountains and some stiff cliffs. There are several warnings not to jump off the cliffs. The water is too shallow and there have been several people severely injured and deaths from it.

While we were there a group of young adults began jumping off one of the side cliffs. Halfway back through our return hike we had to step aside to allow an ambulance to pass us. There is no doubt in my mind that one of those kids got injured from the fall. I hope it was not too serious.
