On Saturday, November 1st I woke up and decided I couldn't stand my kitchen cabinets the way the were for another day. I think Todd recognized the glint in my eye and decided that there was no going back.
So, after some deliberation as to how we were going to tackle this project we spent the rest of the day deep cleaning the cabinet doors and drawers, lightly sanding, prepping and applying the first layer of General Finishes gel stain. The results were all worth the effort!
I was going for a rustic Tuscan look so we decided to go light on the stain and to only do one coat. After letting them dry for a day I proceeded to apply polyurethane. I am really pleased with the way they turned out.
Along the process we chose to add some decorative wood trim below the kitchen sink and stove. Painting the trim after it was glued to the cabinet was probably the hardest thing for us to do. In retrospect I would probably paint the trim and the wood cabinet and them glue the two pieces together. Nonetheless, it turned out incredibly well after all was done!
