I'm still here

Our life has certainly caught up with us since we returned back from Hawaii. These last two months have been crazy at best. Besides the holidays we've been having to deal with several other challenges that at times made me want to go into my backyard and scream at the top of my lungs out of frustration.

I chose not to write for a while because I want my blog to be depressing for those who read it and I didn't want to spend time focusing on the negative. Not everything has been resolved but we have finally been able to turn the corner (at least in my eyes) and I feel I have more control of my life and emotions.

I've learned much along the way. I rediscovered  that optimism and humor help even the most difficult of situations. So I decided to put a positive spin on things and share the good that has come out from some of the things we've experienced.

My dad was diagnosed with what appeared to be a benign stomach tumor. He underwent surgery shortly
before Christmas and was able to return home on Dec. 31. He will be undergoing chemo therapy over the next year as a precautionary measure. He is recovering well and enjoys being out of those breezy hospital gowns.

Do you know how strict Hawaii is about people exporting fruits and vegetables out of their state? I wish they would to the same with bugs! Somehow bedbugs got into our luggage and eventually into our home.
I can't even tell you what a headache it has been to eradicate them. I have spent countless hours over the last eight weeks washing, drying, steaming, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, duct taping, assembling and disassembling, moving, checking... DAILY!

I have an exterminator on a retainer who comes almost every week to spray and kill them. Every night I've been tucking my pants into my socks wearing long sleeves so that the only thing expose are my neck and face. At first I looked like a teenager with a mild case of acne because the only place for them to bite was my face. I considered getting a ski mask but I was afraid of Todd's reaction if he woke up in the middle of the night and saw a person wearing a ski mask in bed next to him.

I'm happy to report I haven't had a bite in two days.

Sick kids. What more can I say?

Anyways, I hope this post didn't sound too whiny. Now onward and upward!
