Today was the kids' last day of school for the week, thanks to Thanksgiving break. We purchased tickets to see an early release of the Pixar animated movie, Coco.
We love the movie The Book of Life, and Coco seemed to be very similar, so I was skeptical of the reviews it received. Both movies share some similarities but they are also different and both great films.
I wouldn't normally blog about going to see a movie with the family, except for the fact we had a little scare during dinner. Stella, who sits next to me at the dinner table began choking on a piece of asparagus. She just tapped my shoulder and signal that she couldn't swallow.
I tried placing her upside down and patting her on the back, but the food was lodged in her throat and wouldn't come out. After a few seconds, which seemed like an eternity, and seeing her began to change color, I just switched tactics and administered the Heimlich maneuver on her.
I've had to do it once before to another person, and I hate the feeling of so much riding on the line. After two thrusts, she was able to spit out the food that had caused her problem and we were able to finish dinner and enjoyed the film.
It's amazing to notice other's reactions in a time of crisis. Emilia who realized what was happening left the room, Carson was confused and followed Emilia outside. Andrew, who is too young to understand just watched. Todd stood beside me ready to step in. Stella bounced right back and finished her dinner as if nothing had happened.
I am so glad for my family and a Heavenly Father who watches over us.
