Enjoying the little moments

Last week we received some sad news. One of Todd's younger cousins was killed in a work-related accident leaving behind a wife, two little children and one more on the way.

Although I didn't know him well, my heart really ached for his family, especially his mother. I am a mother and I can relate to the special bond a mother develops with her son as she lovingly raises him to be come a man. Someone strong, yet loving, hardworking and fun.

I am comforted by the knowledge that his spirit still lives and that he will be reunited with his family one day.

This experience gave me the opportunity to talk to Emilia about what happens after our bodies stop working. She got to see J's body at the viewing and grasp the idea that our bodies are just a shell where our spirits dwell.

On our walk out of the cemetery we found Todd's grandparents tombstone and searched for other family members that had passed long ago. Afterwards I asked her if she had any questions and she told me 'When are we going to see Mater?'

On our drive into town we noticed some replicas of the character Mater from the movie Cars on display on the side of the road. The kids were thrilled by them and kept asking when would we be able to stop by and check them out.

I was concerned that attending a funeral may cause Emilia to worry but she was fine with it all.

A couple of weeks back Todd's mom took Carson on a double decker speed train ride for his birthday date to the Museum of Ancient Life. The girls and I met them there and enjoyed a fun afternoon learning about dinosaurs.  The museum had several of full-size replicas of very large dinosaurs. In the underwater exhibit there was a huge shark head coming out of the wall. I just had to take a picture of the kids in front of it!
