Stella's Baby Blanket

Each of my kids have their own baby blankets. They are mostly a show of affection on my part since they are not really attached to them. I figured when they are grown they will treasure the idea that their mom worked long hours making them their own special blanket.

Stella decided to surprise us by coming five weeks early and ever since then my life has been a whirlwind of events that took priority over finishing this project. Since she is turning one year old next month, I set a goal to complete it before her birthday in fear that I would never get to it again.

The blanket is made of 156 granny squares in 12 different color combinations. It was quite a puzzle to put together and I learned a lot about hiding yarn every time I switched from one color to the next.

I also made Stella a canopy for her crib. When we bought the house the previous owners left us some white sheer curtains that didn't go with the look I had for the room. I kept them because they were in decent shape and later on bought a circle foam wreath to shape the top of the canopy. I had everything else around the house so I just went to work, taking a break from the blanket, and whipped it out in about an hour.  I'm still trying to decide if I should hang it from a ribbon like I have it now or attach the top directly against the ceiling, both ways would probably work.
